The Big Dig - March 2008
The Big Dig On Tuesday the 18th of March 2008, Doncaster Road Junior School participated in the big dig. The big dig is an event which helps the environment by planting trees. We planted the trees to slow down global warming. Humans breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide otherwise known as CO2 but on the other hand trees do the opposite. Trees breathe in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen which is good for us as we need oxygen to breathe. By planting trees global warming will slow down because the trees are taking away most of the carbon dioxide in the world and hopefully this will also improve our local environment. Planting trees can also make the environment a better place and trees can create sustainable habitats for animals. I liked the bit where I did the digging because I was struggling and the teacher was telling me to give it some welly and once I did I found it very easy. I think if everyone on earth plants at least one tree the planet will be saved from global warming and the world will be a better place. Recycling can also be good to prevent global warming and make the world a nicer place. This event, as well as being educational, was thoroughly enjoyable. I worked with Sam Barton, who was a good partner, who worked well with me. We both took it in turns and ended up planting 7 trees. I think we should become an eco-school to help the environment and to make the world a better place. The children are the future but without a healthy environment, none of us have a future. To make the environment better we could plant trees, plants and make sure we don't drop litter around the world. We could also cut global warming chances by using public transport like trains, trams and buses. By doing this we won't let out as much carbon dioxide as usual. We can also use less amount of electricity. People leave on there lights each night and if every person in the world left on their lights at night we would waste electricity and it will put more carbon dioxide in the world. By Ryan - Year 6
